SILVER SPRING, Md. — Montgomery County Police have arrested the man they say is responsible for killing 34-year-old D.C. resident Jamar Emmanuel Jenifer in Silver Spring on Monday.

Jeriel Demitri Martin, 33, was charged with first-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony/violent crime after being taken into custody on Friday.  Police say they found evidence tying him to Jenifer's murder during the execution of a search warrant. Martin, a Silver Spring resident, is being held without bond at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit.

Police were called to the 8000 block of 13th Street just before 9:45 a.m. on Sept. 2 for reports of "one-down." When officers arrived, they found Jenifer in an alleyway suffering from gunshot wounds. First responders attempted life-saving measures, but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

This is an ongoing investigation, more details will be released as they become available.
