CLINTON, Maryland — A Clinton man was found guilty by a jury on Thursday in connection to a deadly triple shooting that was supposed to be a meeting between him, his ex, and their child.
Keanan Turner, 34, was found guilty of several charges, including the first-degree murder of Wanda Wright and Ebony Wright, as well as assault with intent to kill while armed, aggravated assault while armed, attempted first-degree murder of a minor, second-degree cruelty to children, arson, destruction of property.
The deadly events unfolded at an apartment on Good Hope Court SE on April 12, 2021.
According to the Office of the United States Attorney for the District of Columbia, evidence presented at trial showed Ebony Wright and Turner had been in a relationship when she got pregnant. Turner wanted Ebony Wright to terminate the pregnancy but she refused. He then stopped speaking to her.
Officials say after Ebony Wright gave birth, she filed for custody and a child support lawsuit against Turner. After being notified of the lawsuit, Turner reportedly contacted Ebony Wright and said he wanted to meet his child for the first time.
Prosecutors say Turner went to Ebony Wright's apartment to meet with her, her mother Wanda Wright, her sister, and their child.
An hour later, Turner took out a gun and shot Ebony Wright in the head before turning the weapon on Wanda Wright, shooting her in the back of the head. Turner then went into a bedroom, where Ebony Wright's sister was inside.
According to reporting from WUSA9 in 2021, the sister said she was in the bedroom to get clothes for the child when she heard the gunshots. She hid in the closet and screamed for mercy when Turner came inside and shot her in the face.
After the shootings, Turner lit the custody paperwork on fire in an attempt to kill the child.
Evidence shown at trial shows that Turner tried to remove a Ring camera from the front door while running out of the apartment. In doing so, the camera captured video of an exposed unique tattoo on his arm.
As the sister lay wounded in the bedroom, she heard the child crying in another room. Despite having been shot in the face, the aunt rescued the child and carried him out of the apartment to call 911.
According to court documents obtained by WUSA9 in 2021, when firefighters arrived on the scene, a young woman who had been shot in the face rushed over to them clutching a 3-month-old baby.
Turner was later arrested at his father's home in Stafford. In 2021, police reported they found hundreds of firearms, stuffed under mattresses and in chair cushions.
In addition to the violent charges, Turner was also found guilty of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence and carrying a pistol without a license. He will be sentenced on October 14 and faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.
