WASHINGTON — A 31-year-old man is facing a slew of charges after officials say he stalked his ex-girlfriend and repeatedly distributed sexually explicit photos of her to friends and family before escalating to shooting at her three separate times.
According to the Department of Justice, Nahvarj Mills has been charged with 27 counts, including stalking, disseminating non-consensual pornography, and numerous firearms charges.
The 31-year-old has been detained since February but it wasn't until Thursday that a grand jury indicted Mills on charges of:
- Cyberstalking in violation of a protective order
- Cyberstalking; interstate stalking in violation of a protection order
- Interstate stalking in violation of a protection order – emotional distress, use of a dangerous weapon
- Two counts of interstate stalking in violation of a protection order – bodily injury, emotional distress, use of a dangerous weapon
- Interstate violation of a protection order
- Three counts of interstate violation of a protection, use of a dangerous weapon
- Three counts of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon
- Possessing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence
- Interstate communications with intent to extort
- Assault with intent to kill while armed
- Three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon
- Three counts of possession of a firearm during a crime of violence
- Four counts of first-degree unlawful publication
According to court documents, Mills and the woman began dating in December 2022. During the relationship, Mills is accused of physically abusing the victim on multiple occasions.
The victim reportedly broke up with Mills during the summer of 2023. Angry over the end of their relationship, Mills allegedly began appearing uninvited at the victim's DC home and workplace in Maryland. He then began threatening to release sexually explicit images of the victim. A threat he later made good on, officials say.
In November 2023, the victim reportedly received a text message saying in part, “Got no job, got no kids, got no family. I have nothing to do. But what I do have, is the money to keep bothering you.”
More than a month later, the victim reported getting 30 phone calls from a "No Caller ID" number. She then met up with Mills as a way to make amends. However, during the meeting officials say Mills pulled out a gun and pointed it at the woman's head.
Two days later, the woman reported Mills' conduct to DC Police and filed for a Civil Protection Order (CPO). When her mother alerted Mills of the Temporary Protection Order (TPO) over the phone, he replied with numerous sexually explicit photos and videos of the victim.
He followed those messages up with more threats, saying, “I can easily pull this .40 trigger,” followed by photos of a firearm. That weapon was later recovered when police searched Mills' home.
After the TPO was served, Mills allegedly created a fake Instagram account in the victim's name. He is accused of using the account to share more images and videos of the victim after threatening her.
Investigators say Ring camera footage captured a man believed to be Mills outside the victim's home on Jan. 6. During this time, court documents say the man spread out printed threatening messages along with explicit images. A few days later, the victim found more sexually explicit photos on her lawn.
On Jan. 19, a judge ordered Mills to stay away from the victim, her home, her workplace, her vehicle and her family. However, this reportedly did not deter him. A day later, Mills allegedly returned to the victim's home and spread more sexually explicit images outside.
Officials say Mills then went to spread more sexually explicit images outside another victim’s home that same day. This was in addition to even more reported threatening and unwanted text messages to a second victim.
The stalking and violence took an even higher turn when Mills allegedly began shooting into the victim's bedroom three nights in a row. During the third shooting, Mills is accused of calling the victim and threatening her.
Mills was arrested after going to the victim's home again on Jan. 26. Once again the court ordered Mills to stay away from the woman and once again he continued to contact her.
Mill has been in custody since Feb. 7. He was previously indicted on another 7 counts in July and transferred into federal custody.
