19-year-old charged for killing manager of DC restaurant

An indictment was filed Wednesday.

WASHINGTON — A 19-year-old man is charged with shooting and killing the manager of BGR "Burgers Grilled Right" restaurant near Catholic University in Northeast D.C.

An indictment charged Jaleil Jones, 19, of D.C. on Wednesday for the death of Robert Lavender.

Jones was indicted by a grand jury on charges of conspiracy, first-degree murder while armed, robbery, and two counts of possession of a gun during a violent crime.

Investigators say on July 17, 2023, Jones and another person came across Lavender sitting on a bench on Monroe Street in Northeast, D.C. Lavender was waiting on a ride home after work. Jones and the other person allegedly agreed to rob Lavender. During that robbery, police say Jones shot Lavender in the head, killing him.
