Man charged with murder of his uncle in Prince George's County, police say

Investigators say James Savoy, 40, of Brandywine, is charged with shooting and killing 69-year-old George Savoy.

BRANDYWINE, Md. — A Maryland man has been charged with murder in the death of his uncle.

Police say James Savoy, 40, of Brandywine, is charged with shooting and killing 69-year-old George Savoy. 

On Feb. 3, at 2:15 a.m., officers responded to a home in the 13900 block of Old Indian Head Road for a reported shooting. At the scene, officers found the victim inside the home suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene and later identified as George Savoy. 

Responding patrol officers and a K9 officer were able to locate the suspect nearby and take him into custody several hours after the shooting.

The preliminary investigation revealed the suspect shot his uncle during a dispute. 

James Savoy is charged with first- and second-degree murder and other related charges. He is in the custody of the Department of Corrections.
