Police arrest 18-year-old, search for another suspect after string of robberies along the Metropolitan Branch Trail

Police say some of the robberies got physical, but none led to serious injuries. Another suspect is still wanted for their involvement.

WASHINGTON — An 18-year-old man is under arrest for his alleged involvement in a series of robberies along the Metropolitan Branch Trail. Police are searching for another suspect in connection with these robberies.

On Tuesday, police arrested 18-year-old Jalique Wiseman of Northeast, D.C. 

Investigators believe he was involved in at least 18 robberies along the trail that connects the transit center in Silver Spring with Union Station in the D.C.

During a news conference Thursday, police told the public the robbers targeted Apple users. Investigators said the suspects would ask for their victims passcodes before stealing their iPhones. A majority of the robberies occurred in one area, between Rhode Island Avenue and Monroe Street, Northeast.

Police have been searching for these suspects since October. A search warrant has been obtained for a home believed to be involved in the crime spree and used by the suspects. 

Wiseman has been charged for his alleged involvement in the following robberies:

Armed Robbery (Gun)

Police said in each offense the suspects approached the victims at the below locations, flashed their guns and stole property. The suspects then fled the scene.

Robbery (Force and Violence)

Police say in each offense the suspects approached the victims, assaulted the victims and took property from them. The suspects then fled the scene. 

  • On Monday, October 2, at 8:45 p.m. in the 3000 block of 8th Street, NE
  • On Sunday, October 15, at 12:30 a.m. in the 7005 block of Edgewood Street, NE
  • On Monday, October 16, at 7:00 pm at the intersection of Jackson Street and 8th Streets, NE
  • On Wednesday, October 18, at 12:55 a.m. in the 700 block of Hamlin Street, NE
  • On Thursday, October 19, at 2:14 p.m. in the 3600 block of 12th Street, NE
  • On Friday, October 20, at 1:04 a.m. in the 600 block of Rhode Island Avenue, NE
  • On Sunday, October 22, at 3:00 a.m. in the 700 block of Edgewood Street, NE
