Man arrested in connection to 22 thefts from cars in DC

​Police arrested and charged 22-year-old Jordan Young with unauthorized use of a vehicle, receiving stolen property, and possession of implements of a crime.

WASHINGTON — A 22-year-old man is in custody in connection to at least 22 theft-related offenses that occurred in the District.

On Tuesday, Feb. 27, officers with the Metropolitan Police Department were patrolling when they spotted a stolen car. The Air Support Unit tracked the car to the 500 block of 56th Street, Northeast. This is when police say three suspects got out of the stolen car and ran from the scene. One of the suspects was apprehended by responding officers.

Police arrested and charged 22-year-old Jordan Young with unauthorized use of a vehicle, receiving stolen property, and possession of implements of a crime. 

An investigation helped link Young to at least 22 thefts from auto and destruction of property cases in Washington, D.C. Detectives say most of the offenses involved the theft of tools from cars.

Young was also charged with the following:

  1. February 26: Destruction of Property / Theft from Vehicle – Intersection of 9th and A Street, Northeast
  2. February 26: Destruction of Property – 400 block Seward Square Southeast
  3. February 23: Theft 1 from Auto – 7000 block of Alaska Avenue, Northwest 
  4. February 21: Theft and Destruction of Property – 1200 block of Brentwood Road Northeast 
  5. February 21: Theft and Destruction of Property – 100 block of North Carolina Avenue Southeast
  6. February 6: Theft – Unit block of Massachusetts Avenue, Northwest 
  7. February 21:Theft and Destruction of Property – 200 block of 12th Street, Southeast
  8. February 13: Theft – 500 block of 8th Street, Northwest 
  9. January 1, 2023: Theft from Auto – 700 block of 8th Street, Northwest 
  10. January 2: Theft / Destruction of Property – 300 block of Massachusetts Avenue, Northwest
  11. January 2: Theft and Destruction of Property – 700 block of I Street, Northwest
  12. January 2: Theft and Destruction of Property – 700 block of 5th Street, Northwest
  13. January 3: Theft – 700 block of 2nd Street Northeast
  14. January 3: Theft and Destruction of Property – 900 block 12th Street, Northeast
  15. January 3: Theft and Destruction of Property – 400 block of L Street, Northwest
  16. January 3: Theft and Destruction of Property – 800 block of 2nd Street, Southeast
  17. January 4: Theft and Destruction of Property – 800 block of 5th Street, Northwest
  18. January 15: Theft and Destruction of Property – 700 block Maine Avenue, Southwest 
  19. January 16: Theft and Destruction of Property – 400 block of M Street, Southwest
  20. January 16: Theft and Destruction of Property – 400 block of 12th Street, Southeast
  21. January 22: Theft and Destruction of Property – 100 block of Potomac Avenue, Southwest
  22. January 30: Theft and Destruction of Property – 300 block of 9th Street, Southeast 

The investigation into these thefts remains active and ongoing. Anyone with more information is asked to call police at (202) 727-9099 or text your tip to the Department's text tip line at 50411. The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $1,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and indictment of the person or persons responsible for a crime committed in the District of Columbia.
