Police take man into custody after attempted abduction, multi-county police pursuit in Virginia

A Leesburg man is facing numerous charges after fleeing from deputies in a stolen Hummer.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. — A man is in custody after police say he abducted a woman and led deputies on a chase across multiple counties in Virginia in a stolen car. Joseph C. Daniel, 44, of Leesburg was arrested after a pursuit that began on Monday afternoon in Ashburn and ended up in Tyson’s Corner.

At 1:52 p.m. on Monday, a citizen reported what they believed to be an abduction in progress in Ashburn to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.

At the scene of the reported abduction, deputies saw the suspect, later identified as Joseph C. Daniel, behind the wheel of a black Hummer, which took off northbound on the Loudoun County Parkway upon police arrival. Deputies activated their emergency lights and attempted to pull the car over. Police say the driver disregarded deputies and continued driving into Fairfax County. This is where officers with the Fairfax County Police Department and troopers with the Virginia State Police stepped in to help with the pursuit. Police say the Hummer ended up on I-495 north, passing Tysons Boulevard.

At 2:45 p.m., the driver of the Hummer stopped the car at Chain Bridge Road and Flint Hill Road, got out, and attempted to steal a car before being taken into custody.

Investigators say the suspect hit multiple cars while fleeing from officers, but no one was injured as a result of the pursuit.

Further investigation revealed that the car Daniel was driving, a 2005 black Hummer H2, was reported stolen in Chantilly on March 16. It has been repainted from its original green color to black.

Police also discovered Daniel had open warrants out of Loudoun County for two counts of Possession of Stolen Property, Possession of Burglary Tools, Fleeing & Eluding, Driving without a License, and three counts of Probation Violation.

In addition to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office charges, the Fairfax County Police Department has charged Daniel with Robbery – Carjacking, Felony Disregard Police Command to Stop, Felony Hit & Run, Driving without an Operator’s License, and Reckless Driving.

Daniel is currently being held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center on no bond.
