Man arrested, charged for 2021 homicide that happened on The Wharf

His cause of death was ruled to be from blunt force trauma by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

WASHINGTON — A man was killed in the Southwest neighborhood of The Wharf over two years ago, and now police say that have arrested the culprit.

On Oct. 6, 2021, officers with the Metropolitan Police Department responded to Maine Avenue Southwest, off of 9th Street Southwest, just before 2 a.m. after a report of an unconscious person in the area. Upon arrival, they found a man inside of a home.

He was taken to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries, which were considered to be critical. A few days later, on Oct. 11, the man, later identified as 31-year-old Peter Miller, III, died due to his injuries. 

Miller's remains were taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner where an autopsy was performed. His cause of death was ruled to be from blunt force trauma and the manner of death was ruled a homicide.

After an investigation into the deadly crime, on Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2023, in accordance to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Juan Manuel Guerra, 31, of Southwest, D.C.  He was taken to the Homicide Branch where he was charged with second degree murder, DC Police say.
