41-year-old man arrested after barricading himself inside a pickup truck

Jason Chenevert is facing more than 15 charges after allegedly assaulting a family member and fleeing from police ending in a barricade situation.

FREDERICK, Md. — The man who reportedly led police on a car chase down I-70 before barricading himself inside his car has been arrested and hit with 17 different charges. 

According to officials, Jason Idell Chenevert is being charged with:

  • Robbery (Strong Arm)
  • Assault, 2nd Degree - Law Enforcement Officer (Simple)
  • Assault, 2nd Degree (Simple Assault)
  • Disorderly Conduct
  • Fail to Obey Lawful Order to Prevent a Disturbance to Public Peace
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Driving on Suspended License and Privileges
  • Driving While License Suspended
  • Driving Motor Vehicle on Highway Without Registered License
  • Failure to Obey Traffic Device
  • Failure to Stop After Property Damage Accident
  • Unsafe Lane Change
  • Negligent Driving
  • Reckless Driving
  • Willfully Disobeying Lawful Order and Direction of Police Officer
  • Attempt by Driver to Elude Uniform Police by Failing to Stop Vehicle
  • Attempt by Driver to Elude Police by Fleeing on Foot

On Thursday, officers from the Frederick Police Department responded to the 300 block of Ballenger Center Drive for reports of a domestic disturbance and robbery in progress. When officers arrived they located a family member who had allegedly been assaulted by Chenevert. He left before the officers arrived. 

Police remained in the area to get more details from the victim. During this time, Chenevert returned and police say he refused commands from officers to step out of his vehicle before leaving again. 

Officers followed and attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but Chenevert took off again. 

The chase led onto Interstate 70, at this point Frederick Police Department stopped their pursuit to allow Maryland State Troopers to take over. The state troopers followed Chenevert back to Ballenger Center Drive where he reportedly barricaded himself inside his car.

Chenevert exited his car and then ran off into the woods nearby. FPD deployed police K9 and Chenevert was apprehended. Both an officer and Chenevert sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital. 

Chenevert has since been discharged from the hospital and taken to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center for processing.
