GERMANTOWN, Md. — A man has been arrested after barricading his wife in their home, escalating to an armed standoff with police.
Montgomery County Police received a call Sunday from a woman saying her husband wouldn’t let her leave their residence and that he threatened police if they tried to enter the apartment. Police responded to the home at 7:19 a.m. in the 12300 block of Silvergate Way.
When they arrived, they found Marques Buford, 49, armed with a large butcher knife and wearing multiple layers of clothing and a paintball mask. Police say they tried to use less-lethal force against Buford, but his clothing armored him.
Police initiated an emergency response team and SWAT responded. Along with a trained officer negotiator, they say they were able to contain and deescalate, allowing them to take Buford into custody without injuring anyone as he tried to run away from the scene.
Buford has been charged with false imprisonment and is being held without bond. He was first evaluated at a nearby hospital and then was brought to the county jail.
Police said a search of his address revealed a history of violence and Maryland court records show a long list of previous offenses.
