MCLEAN, Va. — Police are asking for more people to come forward after a Langley High School instructional assistant was arrested last week. Police say 40-year-old David Scalea was seen touching himself under his desk in a classroom with children present.
According to detectives with the Fairfax County Police Department, Scalea was arrested on Oct. 11 and charged with obscene sexual display and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Investigators say a student saw Scalea masturbating under a desk and let a school resource officer know what was going on. No students were physically hurt. Scalea, who has been an instructional assistant with Fairfax County Public Schools since 2020, has been placed on administrative leave.
Scalea is being held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
"As educators, we are entrusted with the wellbeing of the children in our care every day," reads a letter sent to families by Fairfax County Public Schools on Monday. "It deeply affects us when someone breaks that trust."
