4 more sentenced to prison for the role in DC clinic blockade

This all stems from the group conspiring for months to create a blockade at the health care clinic.

WASHINGTON — On Wednesday, a judge sentenced four more people in a criminal case against 10 people who conspired to create a blockade at a D.C. reproductive health care clinic. The blockade prevented employees at the clinic from providing patients with reproductive health services.

Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly sentenced Herb Geraghty, to 27 months in prison and three years of supervised release. Joan Bell was sentenced to 27 months and three years of supervised release. Jonathan Darnel was sentenced to 34 months and three years of supervised release. Jean Marshall was sentenced to 24 months and three years of supervised release.

This all stems from the group conspiring for months to create a blockade at the health care clinic. As part of the conspiracy, Lauren Handy, John Hinshaw, and William Goodman traveled from other states to Washington D.C. to participate in the blockade. Judge Kollar-Kotelly sentenced those three on Tuesday

Handy, Hinshaw, and Goodman forced entry into the clinic and began blocking the clinic doors with their bodies, furniture, chains, and ropes. The group then live-streamed the blockade on Facebook.

There are two more co-defendants awaiting sentencing. Of the 10, only one person pleaded guilty, Jay Smith, who was sentenced to 10 months in prison and three years of supervised release in March 2023.
