All clear at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, after potentially armed person prompts lockdown

Police have confirmed that no injuries have been reported so far, however, the base posted on Facebook that first responders are still assessing the situation.

WASHINGTON — Authorities have detained an individual at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling after receiving a report on Friday of an armed person being on the base along with accounts of shots being fired.

The individual will now be transferred to Metropolitan Police Department custody, according to a post from the base's Facebook page. Police have confirmed that no injuries have been reported so far, however, the base's post said that first responders are still assessing the situation.

Around 1 p.m. on Friday, the base announced that a potentially armed individual was being searched for. MPD later said that the armed suspect was thought to have run onto the base, prompting the lockdown. The base posted on Facebook that the last known location of the individual was on the south side near Blanchard Barracks.

The 1,018-acre military base is located in Southeast D.C., according to their website. The installation is situated between the Potomac and Anacostia rivers, off of Interstate 295 in the Anacostia and Congress Heights areas.
