TEMPLE HILLS, Md. — Days after a 13-year-old boy was shot to death while raking leaves outside his home, investigators have yet to identify a suspect or motive in the case.
At just 13 years old Jayz Agnew was already dreaming big about his future.
"He wanted to be a doctor," said his mother Juanita Agnew.
On Nov. 8, Jayz was raking leaves the family's front yard when police say someone shot him. He later died at the hospital.
"I'm terrified to walk on the street because I don't know," said his mother about the mystery around her son's murder.
Thursday, Prince George's County Police were back in the Agnews' Temple Hills neighborhood going door-to-door hoping to find answers for the Agnew family.
"We're hoping we're going to trigger something that they remember that happened that night that could be helpful to us," said Major David Blazer with Prince George's County Police.
The Agnews worry clues could be hard to come by because they can't imagine anyone who would want to hurt their son.
"It can't possibly be that he did something because he was cool as a cucumber," said Jayz's father, Antione Agnew.
Police won't talk specifics about the case. But they say they have had success lately with anonymous calls to their tip line - even with info that may seem insignificant at first.
"We know that there's somebody out here that has information that's going to help us," said Maj. Blazer.
Police say if anyone has information relevant to this investigation, they are asked to please call detectives at 301-516-2512. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case.
Callers wishing to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477), or go online at www.pgcrimesolvers.com, or use the “P3 Tips” mobile app (search “P3 Tips” in the Apple Store or Google Play to download the app onto your mobile device.) Please refer to case number 22-0054517.
The family plans to hold a vigil Friday night in front of Jayz's home at 2121 Jameson St. in Temple Hills at 6 p.m.
