Deadly Hotbox dispensary robbery: 1 arrested, 2nd suspect still sought

Philip Prendergast, a 41-year-old man from Silver Spring, was killed during the robbery.

WASHINGTON — A D.C. man was arrested on Monday in connection to a deadly robbery at the Northwest dispensary Hotbox that happened back in March, DC Police said.

On March 27 just before 3 p.m., police say two suspects armed with handguns entered the dispensary, which is near Georgia Avenue and Hamilton Street in Northwest D.C.

The suspects demanded property and money and the victims complied.

At some point, one of the suspects shot a man inside the store before taking the property and money and running away. The gunshot victim was taken to an area hospital for help, but later died.

He was identified as 41-year-old Philip Prendergast, of Silver Spring.

The men stole approximately $2,500 in cash and $1,900 in marijuana products.

On Monday, the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 21-year-old Trenton Collins, of Northwest, D.C. in connection to the deadly robbery.

Collins was taken to the Homicide Branch where he was charged with first-degree murder while armed.

Police are still looking for a second suspect, captured by nearby cameras.
