WASHINGTON — Police say one person was arrested on Tuesday after a brawl outside a high school in Northeast, D.C. during dismissal. The fight involved students, families and people who were not affiliated with the school, according to Principal William Massey.
Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to HD Woodson High School just after 3 p.m. for the report of a fight. Officers and school resource officers broke up the fight that involved both parents and students. Police and school officials did not say what started it.
During the fight, pepper spray was used by someone involved. After the fight was broken up, one person was arrested for assaulting a police officer.
Massey said school officials are cooperating the the police investigation. Additionally, the school is connecting with families on disciplinary action for those involved.
In a letter to the Woodson High School community, Massey said resources are available for any people who witnessed what happened and are are struggling.
"I also want to acknowledge the potential impact witnessing this incident could have on other students. Woodson's dedicated wellness team members, including our two school psychologists, four social workers, and four school counselors, are available to support those needing a safe space to react, share their feelings, or ask questions. Please reach out if your student needs to be connected to support," Massey wrote Tuesday.
