Haymarket man charged with false bomb threat at Manassas courthouse complex

The man is facing multiple charges in Prince William County.

MANASSAS, Va. — A Haymarket man is facing multiple charges related to a false bomb threat Thursday at a Manassas complex that houses a detention center and courthouse.

The Prince William County Police Department said Ray Darnell Smith entered the lobby of the Prince William-Manassas Adult Detention Center (ADC) with a bag that he immediately took to a restroom, where he called emergency services and falsely reported a bomb threat.

According to a news release, officers responded at 1:53 p.m. and arrested Smith in the lobby after determining he was intoxicated, allegedly. Police say he is charged with threats to bomb, obstruction to justice and intoxicated in public.

Smith is being held without bond and the court date is pending.
