GLEN BURNIE, Md. — A road rage incident left a man dead on the side of the road in Glen Burnie Thursday night. A 51-year-old man armed with a hammer was shot and killed by a 22-year-old motorcyclist, according to Anne Arundel Police Department investigators.
Officers were first called to the area of East Furnace Branch Road and Margate Drive for a report of a shooting just before 8:30 p.m. Responding officers found Scott David Guhse lying in the road shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Also at the scene was a 22-year-old man who identified himself as the shooter.
Homicide detectives were called to the scene and conducted an investigation. That investigation found that the 22-year-old man was on his motorcycle in the area of Route 10 and Furnace Branch Road when he noticed another vehicle tailgating him and driving erratically. The driver of the other vehicle, later identified as Guhse, pulled up alongside the motorcycle and shouted at the driver. Guhse then nearly collided with the motorcycle, forcing the motorcyclist to pull off the road.
Both vehicles came to a stop on East Furnace Branch Road, where Guhse got out of his vehicle and reportedly charged toward the 22-year-old while brandishing a hammer. That's when the 22-year-old pulled a gun and shot Guhse.
Police said the 22-year-old man has a concealed handgun carry permit through Maryland.
Police say the investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone who has additional information that may help police, is asked to contact detectives at 410-222-4700, or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP.
