Police chase ends in deadly crash, body-worn camera video released

Officials say the chase began in the overnight hours on May 13.

HARWOOD, Md. — Officials provided more details Monday regarding a deadly crash that happened during a police chase that started in Calvert County in May.

According to the Maryland Office of the Attorney General's Independent Investigations Division, the chase began in the overnight hours of May 13.

Investigators say deputies received multiple reports of cars being broken into in a Huntington area neighborhood. Deputies then learned of a car in the area believed to be connection to the break-ins.

Deputies found the car and reportedly tried to pull the driver over near Plum Point Road and Ridge Road in Huntingtown. When the driver allegedly refused, the chase began.

Officials say the chase lasted about 25 miles and moved into Anne Arundel County, where the wanted car collided with a pick-up truck at the intersection of Birdsville Road and Solomons Island Road in Harwood.

The pick-up truck driver was injured and taken to an area hospital. She is expected to survive. A young woman, under the age of 18, was one of three people inside the chased car when it crashed. She died from her injuries.

Very little is known regarding the other two people inside the wanted vehicle, however, the driver did suffer critical injuries while the backseat passenger is expected to survive. Both were taken to area hospitals for help.

The girl who was killed will not be identified due to juvenile privacy laws.

The Maryland Office of the Attorney General's Independent Investigations Division released body-worn camera footage Monday of the deadly crash, however, with the placement of the body-worn camera the video does not actually show a clear shot of the pursuit or subsequent crash.

The video may be upsetting for some viewers.
