GAITHERSBURG, Md. — Four months after a 28-year-old man was killed by a car while driving a lawn mower, Montgomery County Police Department arrested the driver who hit him.

Maxim Galkin, 24, was arrested on Tuesday and booked with gross negligence manslaughter by vehicle. Police said Galkin had been driving his car at 100 miles-per-hour in a 50 mph zone when he allegedly hit and killed Jose Guerrero-Moreno of Silver Spring on Aug. 20 in the afternoon.

"Despite posted yellow warning signs indicating the presence of pedestrians and an approaching intersection, Galkin's sedan struck the zero-turn riding lawn mower," Montgomery County Police said Wednesday.

Galkin had stayed at the scene and spoke with police as Guerrero-Moreno was transported to the hospital where the 28-year-old died, according to Montgomery County P.D. Guerrero-Moreno had been crossing the Great Seneca Highway's northbound lanes, near High Gables Drive, when he was hit.

Galkin was released from a detention center on a $100,000 bond on Tuesday and is awaiting a court date.
