STERLING, Va. — It's been nearly two months since Mijal Conejero-Romera and Diego Alexander Woollett were shot and killed.
"She didn't deserve this," said Tinayia Henderson in an interview with WUSA9 Tuesday night.
"It hurts knowing every day that there's no answer for her. There's no answer for Diego," she said.
Henderson told WUSA9 that Conejero-Romera was her best friend. "Mijal was my best friend, more like a sister to me," she explained.
She said Conejero-Romera loved her family deeply and prioritized them.
"Everything she did was for her parents. She was very family-oriented," said Henderson.
She said she was the type of person who was always there for everyone else.
"She was always there to make sure you're okay, even if she wasn't okay, she wanted to make sure you were okay," said Henderson.
She said she last heard from her best friend on the night of August 27. Around 8 p.m., she says she got a text from Conejero-Romera.
"She was like 'Hey mamas how are you?' We call each other mamas and love," said Henderson.
She responded to the text around 11 p.m.
"I was like 'I'm doing good mamas how are you?' The next day I got the call. It was just like I don't know. If I would have answered earlier or called her earlier I would have... I don't know," said Henderson.
The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office says they responded to a call about an argument in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 21000 block of Ridgetop Circle in the area of Huntington Square.
Once deputies arrived on scene, they found a man and woman who had both been shot. Both were taken to the hospital with serious injuries and were pronounced dead a short time later.
Henderson said she got a call from Conejero-Romera's niece about what had happened.
"I completely just like lost it," said Henderson.
She told WUSA9 that Conejero-Romera and Woollett met while working together at Amazon. Henderson says she never met Woollett in person, only over Facetime, but could tell the two were happy.
"They seemed so happy. Her family told me he treated her like a princess," said Henderson.
Henderson and another friend have now launched social media accounts, seeking justice for the couple.
"We're putting it out there to the world like this is really a thing. It's not just her friends who are hurting, but her family is hurting and wanting answers. We don't want this to go unnoticed. We don't want this to go unsolved," said Henderson.
She told WUSA9 that not a day goes by that she doesn't think of her friend.
"She would walk into a room and just light the room up with her smile and her voice," she explained. "That was my best friend in and out. I wish she could just be here. I wish I could pick up the phone and call her and she'll pick up the phone. I'm just living every day to live for her at this point".
Friends have also created a GoFundMe Page to help raise money for her family.
