WOODBRIDGE, Va. — A school resource officer is facing charges after reportedly pinching a female student's cheek during an "inappropriate conversation."
According to the Prince William County Police Department, 41-year-old Pedro S. Chirino works as a security officer at Freedom High School in Woodbridge.
The investigation into Chirino began after school officials contacted the police department about an assault that reportedly happened on Oct. 8.
The victim, identified as an 18-year-old girl, was on a bus in the school's parking lot when Chirino allegedly pinched her cheek while "engaging in an inappropriate conversation." The girl was not injured in the reported assault.
Following an investigation, police charged Chirino with assault and battery. A summons was served to the security officer on Friday and he has since been released on a court summons.
Prince William County Public Schools declined to comment Monday citing the holiday.
