Students 'disgusted' after former drama teacher charged with secretly recording dozens of illicit videos of students at Herndon HS

Police announced Thursday the public helped police to identify 10 victims in the footage allegedly recorded by Raphael Schklowsky, who used to work at Herndon HS.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. —

A former Fairfax County school teacher is now facing 10 more felony charges for child porn and unlawful filming.

Police announced Thursday the public helped police to identify 10 victims in the footage allegedly recorded by Raphael Schklowsky, who used to work at Herndon High School as a drama teacher.

Schklowsky, 36, was previously charged with 20 felony counts of possession of child porn and one felony charge of unlawful filming in April.

Schklowsky placed on leave on April 8 after the school learned of the charges against him.

When Schklowskyattended a hearing in May for his original charges, police announced 21 more charges against him.

While police did not initially believe any of the videos were filmed at the high school, authorities announced Wednesday they had more evidence that proved otherwise and were working to identify the victims.

"My heart sank," a former student who did not want to be identified told WUSA9 on Thursday. "I was absolutely disgusted."

They are not one of the 10 victims identified because their faces could be seen in the videos. But Fairfax County Police said many more students were unlawfully recorded.

The student told WUSA9 the theater arts room has a costume room where students change clothes. She said she never noticed anything that looked like a hidden camera, but said Schklowsky regularly recorded students in his classroom.

A spokesperson from the school system said he was unaware of that behavior and called it "inappropriate." They said the school is looking into where the cameras may have been and why no one apparently saw them.

In a letter sent to Herndon families, the principal said it was "an extremely disturbing event  and in no way reflects the commitment we have to ensure that our students are in a safe environment at Herndon High School."

A handful of students were at the school Thursday visiting crisis counselors.

"We want to know what to do," the former student of Schklowsky said.

The crisis counselors will be back Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. School officials said they are also planning a community meeting to discuss the situation.

Authorities were originally tipped off to Schlowsky's actions months ago after a woman reportedly found a hidden camera in the air conditioning vent of a home she worked in as a babysitter.

Police linked the hidden camera back to Schklowsky and charged him with four misdemeanor counts of unlawful filming.

Since then, police said they found more than 3,500 videos recorded on several devices from the state of Virginia and New York.

Fairfax County authorities said previously they are working with New York officials to investigate the evidence found in New York.

At last check, Schklowsky will remain in custody and be held without bond.

If you or someone you know thinks they may have been illegally recorded or photographed at Herndon High School between May 2017 and June 2018, please contact police at 703-246-7800.
