MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — A special agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) is facing charges after police say he sexually assaulted two women.
The Montgomery County Department of Police announced Monday evening the arrest of an FBI agent accused of sexual assault. Very few details were released with the announcement as police said more would be revealed during a Tuesday morning press conference planned for 11 a.m.
However, police confirmed the identity of the FBI agent as Eduardo Valdivia.
This is not the first time Valdivia has made headlines. In 2020, he was charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and reckless endangerment after shooting a panhandler, Steven Slaughter, on a Red Line Metro train on Dec. 15, 2020.
During the trial, Montgomery County prosecutors argued there were other passengers in the southbound Red Line car who were endangered when Valdivia fired three shots. The agent claimed he acted in self-defense. A jury found him not guilty in Dec. 2022.
Nearly two years after he was acquitted, Valdivia is accused of sexually assaulting at least two women. Detectives believe there may be more.
WUSA9 reached out to the FBI for comment and received the following statement:
“The FBI takes allegations of criminal violations and misconduct very seriously. We are aware of the matter involving the recent arrest of an FBI employee and are fully cooperating with the Montgomery County Police Department. Because this is an ongoing investigation, the FBI cannot comment further.
Regarding the employment of Eduardo Valdivia, he is currently suspended pending the conclusion of the Montgomery County Police Department investigation."
