CHARLES COUNTY, Md. — Police are asking for the public's help after a man was arrested and charged following an alleged attempted kidnapping in Charles County.
According to a release from the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, a 12-year-old girl was walking home just before 1 p.m. in the Meadows at White Oak neighborhood in Waldorf. That is when deputies claim a man began to follow her, yelling out of the window for her to get into his car.
Deputies say the girl ignored the man who then started to claim he was a friend of the family.
The girl was able to get home and told her parents what happened. The parents reportedly saw the man outside and called the police to give a description of the man and his car.
Officials say the man ran away, but an officer in the area recognized the car from the parents' description. The officer pulled the man over and found he was reportedly driving under the influence, according to the Charles County Sheriff's Office.
The man has since been identified as 43-year-old Lamar Anthony Green. Green has been arrested and charged with driving under the influence and attempted kidnapping.
Detectives are asking for the public's help to find out if Green was involved in any other similar incidents or if there are more victims.
Green drives a silver 2008 Chevrolet Malibu. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective R. Horrocks at horrocksr@ccso.us or 301-609-6546.
