WASHINGTON — Police are asking for the public's help finding a man who ripped off a liquor delivery truck for dozens of bottles of tequila last week. The robbery was caught on camera.
According to a police report, Metropolitan Police Department officers were called to Bowen Discount Liquors at 4510 Bowen Road Southeast for a robbery on Oct. 1 around 11 a.m. When officers got there, they spoke to a man who said two men pulled up to the back of his delivery truck in a Burgundy sedan. One of the men told the victim, "Back up, I got a drako." Drako is a slang term for a gun. The other man said, "If he moves I bust him." Neither man showed a weapon.
One of the suspects is seen on camera jumping into the back of the truck. An incident report says the man got away with 10 cases of Don Julio tequila. Each bottle is valued at around $50. After snatching the booze, one suspect got back into what police said was a burgundy Nissan Maxima and headed eastbound.
Paul, the store manager, has been working there for 24 years. He told WUSA9 that this incident wasn't the first.
“Like four or five times in the last couple of months. The drivers park and they unload and bring it inside. At the same time, the people came out of the car and took the stuff,” Paul said.
Paul is calling on DC Police to provide extra patrolling in the area. He has two daughters to go home to and would like to feel safe where he works.
“Yeah I want to go home safe, you know. I’m here every day until 9 p.m. On the weekends until 10 p.m.,” he said.
