Man found dead near Howard Theatre in Northwest DC, police investigating

Police initially said the man was shot, but now say the cause of death is undetermined.

WASHINGTON — Police are investigating after a man was found injured near the Howard Theatre in D.C. Police were called to the 600 block of T Street Northwest, in between the venue and Shaw's Tavern, before 7 a.m. for a report of a shooting.

Once on scene, a spokesperson for the department says officers found the man not conscious or breathing. He was pronounced dead a short time later Officers are conducting a death investigation.

Detectives are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the man's death, interviewing witnesses, and gathering any potential surveillance video in the area. The man's wounds were initially believed to be gunshot wounds, but police now say the cause of death is undetermined.

The patient will be transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner where a cause and manner of death will be determined.
