WASHINGTON — A man is dead after a shooting in Northeast D.C. early Monday morning. Police are still searching for who is responsible, and no arrests have been made. The deadly shooting follows a violent weekend in the District.
DC Police officers were called to what was initially a "shots fired" call in the 3800 block of Jay Street Northeast around 12:30 a.m. When officers arrived they found a man shot multiple times. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police did not offer any information about a suspect or suspects in this case.
A couple of hours later, around 2:30 a.m., police responded to the sound of gunshots in the area of 4100 Hunt Place Northeast around 2:30 a.m. Officers responded to a gas station in the area, where they found a man who had been shot in the chest. He was taken to the hospital for treatment. When he left for the hospital, police said the man was conscious and breathing. His current condition is not known at this time.
Police say no suspect information is available for this shooting.
The two Monday morning shootings follow a violent weekend in the District in which six people were shot in three shootings hours apart.
On Saturday, around 8:40 p.m., MPD officers responded to a report of a shooting near 54th and 49th Street. The investigation revealed that the shooting happened in the 5400 block of Bass Place Southeast. A man was found shot on 49th Street and a woman was found on 54th Street. Both victims were taken to an area hospital for treatment of their injuries. Their current conditions are unknown.
A few hours later, around 11:09 p.m., officers were called to the 200 block of Malcolm X Avenue Southeast for a shooting report. Once on scene, officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment. A short time later, a woman was found at a hospital receiving treatment for a gunshot wound. She was also shot on Malcolm X Avenue, and taken to a hospital by another person.
Just after midnight on Sunday, police responded to the 4200 block of 7th Street Southeast. Officers found evidence of a shooting, but no victim at the scene. A short time later, police were flagged down in the 1400 block of Southern Avenue Southeast by a man and a woman. Both had been shot and were on their way to the hospital when they flagged down officers, police said. They are recovering in the hospital, but conditions are not known.
