WASHINGTON — Police are searching for a teenager accused of shooting a 14-year-old boy to death in Northeast D.C. last August.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the shooting happened just before 8 p.m. on Aug. 1 in the Unit block of Tuckerman Street, Northeast.
When officers arrived, they found 14-year-old David Bailey suffering from a gunshot wound. The teen would die from his injuries at the scene of the crime. A second shooting victim was found a short time later and taken to an area hospital for help with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said in August that a basketball game was being played inside of the Lamond Recreation Center, but it is unknown if the victims were part of the game. The shooting occurred outside of the rec center.
Police are now searching for 17-year-old Andre Chillous from Northwest D.C. He is wanted for premeditated first-degree murder while armed. The department shared a photo of Chillous Friday:
Anyone who has seen Chillous is asked to contact the Metropolitan Police Department.
WUSA9 spoke with a neighbor after the shooting in August, she described waking up to dozens of gunshots. She said the rec center is a place where people come and expect to be protected.
"This is supposed to be a safe space. This is the option for people to come when they have nothing else to do and gather and have fun and not think about anything else in life but enjoying recreational activities," she said, "...and a 14-year-old lost his life here today."
