According to police, early Friday morning Metropolitan Police Department nightlife officers spotted a vehicle they were told to be on the lookout for in relation to the thefts. During the stop, the officers recognized the driver from surveillance images.
Police arrested the driver, identified as 23-year-old Avante Demarco Greene, of Northwest, for the thefts. He was charged with first-degree theft in the following incidents:
- July 10: in the 1000 block of F Street, Northwest
- July 12: in the 3200 block of M Street, Northwest
- July 16: in the 1000 block of F Street, Northwest
Police are still looking for other people responsible for the thefts. A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered by the police department for anyone who may have information that leads to an arrest and conviction in this case. Tips can be submitted via MPD's tip line at 202-727-9099 or by texting 50411.
Lululemon has also said they will officially close their 14th Street location by July 21. The store has not said if this is in connection to the robberies.
A location in SE, D.C. also closed in December 2023 following a robbery two weeks earlier. The store was hit on Dec. 14. An employee told officers that three people came in wearing ski masks and demanded cash. One of them took off with money while the other two stole more than 50 pieces of clothing worth roughly $6,000. Police and company officials did not say if the Navy Yard closing had anything to do with the reported robbery or was a factor in the decision.
