SEAT PLEASANT, Md. — One person was killed and three others were hospitalized in shootings at two nearby parks in Seat Pleasant on Sunday night.
Around 6:45 p.m., a victim was found suffering a gunshot wound at Birchleaf Park. That person has since died.
Right across the street at Booker T Homes Neighborhood Park, three people were shot around 8:20 p.m. Their injuries weren't considered life-threatening.
Shell casings littered the street as investigators work to figure out what happened. Park Police is currently treating the two shootings as separate incidents despite they're just across the street from one another.
Acting Police Chief Germaine Haywood described the shooting as "neighborhood beef" and asked the community to not turn a nice weather day at the park into acts of violence.
"More than likely there is more than one suspect," Haywood said.
There may have been additional victims from the shooting who walked in to a nearby hospital, but Haywood said they were working to confirm what happened with those victims.
"From what it looks like – preliminary investigation determined that they are loosely related, but they did not happen here," Haywood said.
Suspect information hasn't been provided, and no other information has been released.
Anyone with information should call Prince George's County Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477). Callers can remain anonymous.
