ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Police in Alexandria are continuing to investigate after people tried to steal an ATM from a 7-Eleven store early Tuesday morning. Employees say this isn't the first time something like this has happened at the store.
According to police, officers responded to the 7-Eleven on South Whiting Street around 2:10 a.m. When officers arrived, they found the storefront damaged and an ATM outside on the sidewalk. Police said the suspects took the clerk's cellphone, but it's not clear whether any cash was taken from the ATM.
Employees told WUSA9 this is the third time the ATM had been targeted at the store.
Police say no weapons were involved and no one was hurt. Police say the suspects were in the process of leaving when officers pulled up. The suspects drove away and have not been located. Police did not say how many people were involved in the attempted robbery, or provide details about the car they were driving.
So far, no arrests have been made.
