2 men arrested, charged in armed robbery preceeding shooting by officer

Police are waiting for a third suspect arrested in D.C. to be extradited back to Prince George's County.

DISTRICT HEIGHTS, Md. — Two men accused of robbery and a carjacking have been arrested by Prince George's County Police and face multiple charges. The arrest stems from a police surveillance case that led to a non-deadly shooting by an officer of one of the men.

Edward Leroy Brown, 24, and Kanard Bishop, 26, were charged Friday with armed robbery, assault, and firearms charges.

At 3:05 p.m., PGPD detectives with the Carjacking Interdiction Unit and the Washington Area Vehicle Enforcement Team said they were monitoring an allegedly carjacked car in the 5700 block of Silver Hill Road when they saw two men get out, wearing masks, and enter a store.

Detectives followed the men into the store and said they saw them behind the counter, with guns, committing a robbery. The officers said they announced themselves as police and told the men to drop their weapons, but the suspects ran out the back of the store into the parking lot.

While in the parking lot, police said a detective shot Brown, as he ran toward the officer. The second suspect was caught and taken into custody shortly after.

Brown was taken to an area hospital for treatment and has since been released. Bishop was arrested at the scene. A third man, 18-year-old Kahlill Boyd, allegedly drove away in the carjacked car, but was stopped and arrested by DC Police on Anacostia Road, Southeast.

Two guns were also found in the parking lot, according to police.

Brown and Bishop are being held at the Department of Corrections without bond. PGPD have an arrest warrant for Boyd once he is extradited from D.C. to Prince George's County.

The Internal Affairs Division is investigating the shooting by the officer. As is standard procedure, he is now on administrative leave. The officer joined PGPD in 2010 and is assigned to the Bureau of Investigation.
