ARLINGTON, Va. — Parents' email inboxes were met with unsettling news Friday night, as the principal of an Arlington public school sent out a message saying that an employee had been arrested for having an inappropriate relationship with a student.
"I am writing to share news regarding an employee at Wakefield High School, Mr. Darryl Ramsey, Jr.," the email from Wakefield High School Principal Peter Balas read.
Ramsey, 31, was an instructional assistant at Wakefield High School, a role that usually requires close attention to specific students struggling with classwork.
Ramsey had allegedly taken advantage of this position and, according to the Arlington County Police Department, solicited sex from a female student. He was arrested on Friday and booked with Taking Indecent Liberties with a Child by a Person in a Supervisory or Custodial Relationship.
The instructional assistant, who lives in Lanham, Md., was placed on administrative leave. Arlington County Police said on Friday that they would be searching for other potential victims.
"We take every report seriously and school officials are cooperating with law enforcement during this ongoing investigation," Wakefield Principal Balas said Friday.
