77-year-old Arlington man arrested for allegedly making and using firebombs

The Office of the Fire Marshal says the case began with recurrent noise complaints that started on Aug. 20.

ARLINGTON, Va. — A 77-year-old Arlington man was arrested and charged Friday for allegedly making and using firebombs, according to the Arlington County Fire Department.

The Office of the Fire Marshal says the case began with recurrent noise complaints that started on Aug. 20 in the 5700 block of Washington Boulevard. Residents throughout Bluemont and along the Custis Trail reported a series of loud noises that fire marshals began investigating.

They identified Charles Peters as a person of interest. Fire marshals say they executed a search warrant for Peters' residence on the morning of Aug. 30. The 77-year-old was then arrested and charged with five counts of manufacturing, possession, and use of firebombs or explosive materials or devices.

Peters is being held without bond in the Arlington County Detention Facility, and authorities say there is no ongoing threat to the public.
