SILVER SPRING, Md. — Police are investigating after an office belonging to Prince George's County Executive Angela Alsobrooks' Senate campaign was broken into on Friday morning. Alsobrooks said the break-in appeared to target the campaign's Silver Spring field office.
According to the Alsobrooks campaign, a staffer discovered the break-in when he arrived to work around 11:15 a.m. The staffer found his desk disheveled, campaign items thrown in the trash, personal belongings stolen, and his closed and sealed leather notebook containing sensitive campaign information was untied and had been opened.
A police report has been filed, but so far, no one has been brought into custody for the crime.
“I am disappointed to see that our office seemed to be targeted. Someone forced their way in, went through sensitive material, threw some of our campaign shirts in the trash and stole personal items from a staff member,” Alsobrooks said in a statement “What I will say is that this will not deter us and it only strengthens our resolve to run the kind of uplifting campaign we’ve been running since day one.”
According to spokesperson for the campaign, after talking to other tenants in the building, the campaign office appears to be the only place broken into. The campaign said they are installing surveillance cameras after the break-in.
Alsobrooks announced her run for Senate last year, hoping to fill Sen. Ben Cardin's seat. Should she win, her win would be historic. She would be the first Black U.S. Senator from Maryland and the third Black woman to hold a seat in the body.
