New attention focused on finding shooters in shocking video

A grieving family joined Prince George's Police in an appeal to solve the mystifying murder of security guard Alex Lynch

CHILLUM, Md. — A mystifying unsolved murder in Prince George’s County is getting new attention because the victim’s brother says his family will never give up on looking for answers.

Wednesday, police joined the family of murdered security guard Alex Lynch to put a new spotlight on the video of a shooting outside the Area Code strip club in Chillum on March 28, 2023.

The video shows a hooded suspect with a semi-auto, assault-style pistol firing rifle ammunition leaping from the passenger side of a stolen car to begin the attack.

From the back seat of a red sedan, another gunman opens fire while the driver joins in shooting from behind the wheel.

Security worker Alex Lynch, who was out front, was killed on the spot.

Two bystanders inside the club were wounded.

“It's been total hell without having my brother around," said Aaron Watkins, Lynch's older brother.

“It hurts. It blows my mind not knowing why someone would do this to my little brother," Watkins said.

Alex had a son, now 7, and worked two jobs, his brother said.

Prince George's County homicide detective Detective Shane M. Goudreau says the car was stolen and found abandoned and on fire in Riverdale Park shortly after the murder.

Investigators hopeful that a year’s time may bring witnesses forward.

"Don't just think that because someone is wearing a mask you might not know who it is," Goudreau said.

Watkins called for anonymous tips.

There’s nothing to scared of, you can remain anonymous we just want closure," he said.
