16-year-old shot and killed one block away from DC police station

Police are now searching for the suspect who killed the teenager and are offering up to $25,000 for information that leads to an arrest.

WASHINGTON — A teenager is dead after being shot one block away from a D.C. police station early Tuesday morning.

Police announced Tuesday evening that 16-year-old, Steffen Brathwaite of Southeast died in the hospital as a result of his injuries.

Officers are now investigating this incident as a homicide.

Around 12:12 a.m. Tuesday, officers from the 7th District heard gunshots and began canvassing the surrounding area.

Police located Brathwait at 24th Place and Hartford Street in Garfield Heights suffering from gunshot wounds to the head and body.

He was transferred in critical but stable condition, but later died in the hospital.

So far there is no information available on possible suspects or motive.

Police are offering a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible.
