Two women wanted for stealing 47 Stanley cups

According to a report, the women walked in, took the cups and walked out.

WASHINGTON — Two women are wanted in D.C. after they walked out of a store with 47 Stanley cups.

That’s worth $2,121 stolen from a Northeast D.C. location of outdoors equipment retailer REI.

According to a report, the two women went into the store around 4:10 p.m. Monday afternoon, took 47 of the reusable cups, walked past all checkout stations and out of the store. Store employees say they don’t know which direction the women walked after leaving the store.

Both women were described as approximately 20 to 40 years old. One woman was described as wearing a white long sleeve shirt, green leggings and a white hat. The other woman was described as wearing a pink and white jacket, pink shoes, a tan bag and had long pink dreadlocks.

The theft happened Sept. 30, but police did not respond to the REI until Oct. 2. They have not said why the store waited two days to report the theft.

The 40-oz tumblers retail for $45, and they have become all the rage in the past few years after going viral on TikTok. The company’s third collaboration with Target and Starbucks sold out in minutes at some stores back in January. People resold the limited edition tumblers for up to $200 on some resale sites such as eBay.
