WASHINGTON — Police are investigating various shootings that occurred in the 4th of July celebrations in the nation's capital.
On the one hand, a double shooting in Northeast D.C. According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the shooting happened around 5:30 p.m. near the intersection of 11th Street and Galloway Street, Northeast.
Officers have confirmed two men were wounded in the shooting. Both were conscious and alert when first responders arrived. There is no word on their injuries at this time.
Police have not released any information regarding possible suspects or what may have happened in the moments leading up to the shooting.
This was not the only shooting reported in the District on the national holiday. In Southeast, D.C., police also responded to a shooting around 8:51 p.m. in the 1900 block of Anacostia Drive. Sixth and Seventh District officers were on the scene and determined the man shot had died. He was later identified by police as Donald Hawkins, a 46-year-old man from Northeast.
