WASHINGTON — There are new developments in the case of three young girls arrested for the murder of a D.C. man in October of last year. Police say two 13-year-old girls and a 12-year-old girl face charges.
On Saturday, a woman who identified herself as the mother of the 12-year-old girl appeared in court alongside her daughter for an initial hearing. The mother said her daughter is also the 12-year-old who was shot in the leg Friday morning on Peabody Street. She didn’t have much to add other than that. She said she and her family are praying.
Police say in October of last year officers responded to a report of a man lying in an alley on Georgia Avenue near Sheridan and Rittenhouse Streets in Northwest.
Police say they found 64-year-old Reggie Brown with blunt force trauma to his head. He was pronounced dead shortly after.
Fast forward to March of this year. On Thursday, a 13-year-old girl was arrested. Then on Friday, another 13-year-old girl and a 12-year-old were also arrested in connection to Brown's murder. Authorities say all three are now facing second-degree murder charges in connection to the death of Reggie Brown.
Brown’s family tells WUSA9 they are glad that the arrests were made but they still want to know why? Family described as a quiet and kind person.
In a statement to WUSA9 — Brown’s family said: “Reggie was a person who stayed to himself. Never bothered anyone was well known in the community as he grew up in the Brightwood neighborhood for 64yrs. He was well respected in the Emery Recreation center everyone knew him and that he was absolutely harmless.”
