Bomb threat posted on Instagram leads Prince William Co. Police to 12-year-old girl

The mall was evacuated as a precaution but after officers searched the area, no devices were found and the threat appeared to be unfounded.

MANASSAS, Va. — A 12-year-old girl is accused of posting a bomb threat toward a Manassas Mall in May. 

According to the Prince William County Police Department, shortly before 9 a.m. officers learned of the threat that was posted to Instagram and responded to Manassas Mall on Sudley Road to investigate. 

The mall was evacuated as a precaution but after officers searched the area, no devices were found and the threat appeared to be unfounded. 

Six days later, detectives announced that the Instagram post had been traced back to a 12-year-old girl. 

After discussing the case with a Juvenile Court Services, officials decided to allow the case to be handled through the juvenile diversion process.
