Today, a judge sentenced Terrence Green to life in prison plus 20 years for shooting Montgomery County police officer Kyle Olinger, leaving him paralyzed from the neck down.Audrey Barnes has the details Audrey Barnes' report Montgomery County police officer Kyle Olinger made an emotional appeal from his wheel chair for the judge to throw the book at the man who put him there.Olinger said his personal lifetime confinement began August 13th of 2003 when 19-year old Terrence Green shot him after a routine traffic Olinger said the suspect deserves a lifetime of confinement too. Defense attorneys had argued that Green was mentally ill and should serve a 15 to 20-year sentence at the Patuxent Institute where he could be treated.Despite appeals from Green's family, Judge Michael Pincus didn't buy that, and sentenced him to life plus 20-years.He could be eligible for parole in about 18 years.The judge recommended that Green serve his sentence at the Patuxent Institute but State's attorney Doug Gansler said that is unlikely to happen. He also said it's not likely that Green will ever be a free man again.Olinger said he would testify before any parole board that might try to release Green in the future.As for his own future, Olinger who has a fiancée and a 14-year old son says he's hopeful.The Department of Corrections will ultimately decide where Green will serve his sentence.
