VIRGINIA, USA — Law enforcement in New York is investigating a deadly plane crash that claimed the life of a Virginia pilot.
According to the Greene County Sheriff's Office, the crash happened on Sunday at 6:10 p.m. The plane, a Mooney M20J, was traveling from Maryland to Albany. The pilot, now identified as Seuk Kim, was transporting three dogs when the crash happened.
Officers from multiple agencies arrived at the crash site to help locate the passengers. Kim was found dead at the scene. Officials located one of the three dogs dead. Another dog was found alive with two broken legs and the third dog was found suffering from minor injuries.
The dogs were taken in to receive veterinary care from Capital District Veterinary Hospital.
Pluto, a Yorkie/Terrier mix suffered pulmonary contusions and internal and external bruising from the crash. Pluto was evaluated at Capital District Veterinary Hospital, but has since been released to Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley and is expected to make a full recovery.
Whiskey is currently at Pieper Memorial Emergency & Specialty Hospital. He is scheduled to get surgery on his two broken legs, Thursday. Doctors are optimistic about Whiskey's recovery.
The FAA is investigating the crash.
DMV-based animal shelter "Forever Changed Animal Rescue" posted their condolences on Facebook, writing that Kim was part of a "Pilots N Paws" program within the organization.
"The sky will never be the same without you. We’re so thankful to have met you and for all of the countless hours you flew to help animals have a new life, including our most memorable one; Connie the Container Dog." FCAR said in their post.
Connie was found trapped inside a shipping container at the Port Houston's Bayport Container Terminal earlier this year. Kim flew down to Houston to bring Connie to Virginia where she had her puppies.
Kim leaves behind a wife and three children.
