MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — Multiple library systems, including Montgomery County, are experiencing a system-wide network outage.

According to Montgomery County Public Libraries, the outage stems from an underground fire in Baltimore this past weekend. Currently, MCPL's Wi-Fi, public computers, printing, scanning and copying services are unavailable.

The fire damaged a fiber optic cable network used by library systems across the state. This led to a statewide internet disruption.

As of Tuesday, the outage has lasted for several days as repairs are underway. It is unclear when services will be restored. MCPL will provide updates as more information becomes available.

Despite the internet outage, all MCPL branches remain open for any user looking to check out materials.
