WASHINGTON — Ever imagined your local police officers trading their badges for BBQ tools? Well, save the date for Tuesday, when the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) presents its annual National Night Out, brought to you by the National Association of Town Watch.
Every first Tuesday in August, MPD joins D.C. residents, government officials, nonprofit agencies, and community leaders to celebrate America’s Night Out Against Crime.
From community cookouts to open houses, block parties, candlelight vigils, and athletic events, there is something for everyone. Picture this: officers grilling burgers, neighbors mingling, and kids laughing as they play carnival games. It’s a night where the usual roles dissolve, and the community comes together.
The festivities span all seven police districts, with events scheduled throughout the late afternoon and evening hours.
National Night Out is about forging connections, building trust, and showing that when it comes to creating a safer, stronger community, everyone has a role to play.
