MT AIRY, Md. — A Maryland brewery has been devastated by a fire that raged for two hours Thursday morning as rainy weather impacted emergency response.
Frederick County Fire responded to a call at 3:37 a.m. to Red Shedman Farm Brewery on the 13600 block of Glissans Mill Road in Mt. Airy, Md. When they arrived, firefighters found heavy fire from a one-story building and requested the tanker task force to bring water to fight the fire. Officials say a total of 45 firefighters from Frederick, Carroll, Howard and Montgomery Counties were called in for help.
Officials said no one was in the building and reported no injuries, but the building itself was deemed a "total loss." They estimate the fire caused around $800,000 in damages.
Fire department officials initially said that the fire was at Linganore Winecellars, a winery located next door to the brewery. Linganore Winecellars called WUSA9 to correct the location. The winery was not affected by the fire.
Red Shedman Farm Brewery is a family-owned brewery in Mt. Airy. The brewery posted a statement on Facebook about the fire.
"We extend our deepest gratitude to the firefighters that worked tirelessly to contain and extinguish the flames," the post said. "... Thank you for your continued support, and we hope to provide further updates to you soon."
The brewery will be closed indefinitely while they assess the damage.
