In anticipation of the thousands of people expected to convene in downtown DC on March 24 for the March For Our Lives, the Opening Ceremony of the National Cherry Blossom Festival has been pushed back from Saturday to Sunday, March 25.
According to a statement put out by the festival, “based on reported crowd estimates, road closures, and recommendations provided by city officials and agencies, this decision has been made in careful consideration of our ticketholders and performers.”
While the Opening Ceremony has been moved, participants can still enjoy the rest of the festival on Saturday, March 24, including the Tidal Basin Welcome Area and ANA performance stage.
The March For Our Lives is expected to bring in 500,000 people.
Meanwhile, the days for peak bloom for the cherry blossoms were pushed up a whole ten days from the original prediction. Peak bloom is now expected from March 27 through March 31.
