World-renowned chef Jose Andres helped keep marchers fed and happy Saturday for the March for Our Lives rally in D.C.
Andres, who recently donated and served up millions of meals to those without power in hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico, called the event historical.
“It’s a big day,” he said in a video on Twitter. “We are here only to support you, the future, the kids, the children.”
“Look who is helping a civil cause again. Free food for all students,” Barbara Tombros tweeted.
“Thank you @chefjoseandres for feeding the children today,” another woman wrote.
Andres lined up with volunteers outside the Navy Memorial along Pennsylvania Avenue, right in the heart of Saturday’s march area. He handed out pizza, sandwiches, apples, donuts and water to those who needed a bite to eat.
Sugar Shack Donuts said it donated 5,000 donuts for Andres’ food giveaway.
Video tweeted by the chef showed a big line of people waiting to get their brown sack full of goodies or box of pizza.
Andres cheered on the thousands of students—and their parents—for participating in Saturday’s massive march.
“Super amazing to see how many kids, how many children, how many high schools supported by the families here with a very, very very simple, clear message,” Andres said. “The great thing is the adults, we are not in charge anymore.”
